Very family-friendly atmosphere – bucket of peanuts on the table and kids love throwing shells on floor. Menu has a wide variety of options, from traditional to more adventurous, local choices. Family-owned and operated, Java Lava seems to be local’s favorite. Friendly staff serving home-cooked breakfast make this a great place to start the day. For the traveler, it’s also a cybercafe with excellent room in back for surfing, working, meeting or reading – all while drinking coffee, of course. (And I didn’t ask, but I bet this is a great place to grab ‘n go when heading toward RMNP.)

We love the authentic Mexican food at family-owned Azteca. They have four locations, including Fraser and Granby. We’ve had fantastic food and great service at both locations. And you can’t beat the prices. Lunch and dinner, kids menu and drinks.

Randi’s is an Irish Pub that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a large dining area, a bar area that’s always has “the game” on, and a very lovely outdoor patio area. Food and drinks are always fantastic. We are never disappointed at Randi’s.

Mmmmmm…..Sharky’s. Sharky’s is not big enough for the number of people who want to eat there. But it is soooooo good. Arrive before 8:30a or after 11a to avoid the biggest crowd. It’s fun to ride the Granby-Fraser trail and then order the giant cinnamon roll with no guilt.

Smokehouse BBQ is fast, friendly and a good value. Great for kids, but dads love it too. (Kids meal AND local brews.) The owners have put love and attention into the details. We’ve always enjoyed eating in, but they have carry-out as well.

Mountain Pies are awesome! Choose your own crust, sauce and toppings. Eat the center, then dip the ginormous crust in honey. So, so good! (They also have thinner and GF crust options, salads and other dinner options…but why?) Beau Jo’s is a Colorado tradition and can get very busy – it might take a while to get seated and get your fresh, hot pizza. So, if you are on a schedule to get to airport, save it for next trip.

Tommyknockers is a popular (for good reason) local brewery and restaurant located in Idaho Springs. Wide variety of menu options – I went for the less-healthy Chicken Waffles and was not sorry. Craft beers and soda available for purchase and make appreciated Colorado souvenirs/gifts.

I’d guess Snoasis is one of the older eateries at Winter Park Resort, but I enjoy the funky retro style. I also enjoy the flame-grilled bacon cheeseburgers and fries! It’s a sort of snack bar/cafeteria with stations for soups, pizza, grill, bakery and drinks. Full meals, kids meals and snacks. Also bar and patio areas. Excellent view of the Dark Territory Terrain Park. Note – close to three lifts, but further than it looks on map. Easiest to ski down to it.

Granby Grill has a fantastic menu and beautiful interior. Large patio area looks out onto lifts. Special menu and tasting events throughout year. Very popular and can have longer wait times. As a family, we enjoy Happy Hour in summer at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Adults can enjoy the food and drink specials while the kids enjoy a wide open space with games and horses. We like to go on Thursday, then head to Winter Park for music.

I highly recommend enjoying the unique and wonderful locally-owned restaurants of Grand County…but…sometimes the kids just need Happy Meal and they need it NOW. For quick meals, there’s a McD’s at the stoplight across from Granby Ranch and in Winter Park across from Hideaway Park.
